The Modern Day Farming

The Modern Day Farming

Let’s start at the basic, as the name suggests, Hydroponics deals with water-based farming. Now, we know all farming requires water, but in this particular method, we skip one very “crucial” element, Soil. Makes you re-think everything you know about farming, doesn’t it?

Simply put, hydroponics involves growing plants in nutrient-water and without the soil. It has many benefits, (we went old-school here, pulled out our yellow notes and made a pro’s and con’s list!), higher efficiency, all year supply and a must faster growth.

In this fast-moving urban world, there has been talk about how the population will survive without food, well Hydroponics is just one of the answers and a small step in the right direction. It combines the farming experience with the convenience and ease of sheltered roof. Having a controlled environment to grow plants allows our farmers the ease of growing a variety of salad leaves all year around without the worry of temperature and changing weather conditions.

It is estimated that by the year 2050, more than 80% of the world's population will be living in urban areas. This will place a huge burden on our ability to feed everybody with conventional methods. On top of this, freshwater supplies are at an all-time low, and will continue to drop off in the coming years, allowing less water available to grow these crops.

Hydroponic farming, or as we call it, vertical farming method, offers a solution to both these issues. This method of farming saves about 99% of water consumption used in traditional method of farming. The water being used to grow our leaves is recycled and controlled in the amount needed to grow the best produce. Even though we function from a warehouse located in Al Quoz, we yield a space of 30,000 sq. feet in farming, for us, the sky is the limit.

How does it work? Our seeds are sowed in small pods and once they sprout the roots are immersed directly into water full of necessary nutrient for the produce to grow to its full potential. This method allows us room to yield more in the available space without having to worry about the dynamic weather outside! Meaning, it could be snowing, raining for days, a sand storm, too humid? Well, no one messes with our produce! Let the rains fall and sun shine high, our crops are well nurtured and 100% safe!
